Fasting

Fasting is always voluntary.
Motives are what determine whether or not the fast is a spiritual fast.
A spiritual fast is an act that humbles and draws us into deeper dependence on God.

Helpful Hints:

Physical:

-Remain hydrated on the fast by drinking plenty of water.
- Fasting naturally depletes elctrolytes which can lead to dehydration and dizziness- if you're doing a water only fast, add electrolytes to your water. This is especially important for day 2 and day 3.
- Bathroom habits will be different, your body is going through a natural detox process
-If you or overly tired physically, sometimes napping is often enough to refresh you

Spiritual:

-Use this time to read scripture and pray.
-Specifically, the meditation of scripture is important to allow it to nourish your Spirit, not just intellectual reading
- Practice types of prayer, such as sitting in the presence of the Lord, praying scripture you read, surrendering concerns, as well as listening
- Seek out others in our faith community to pray with, , encourage and support. This is the beauty doing this together!

Scripture Meditation:

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.
